About Dr. Duxbury
Dr. Shawn Duxbury was born and raised in South Palm Beach Florida, about sixty miles north of Miami. He graduated from Lake Worth High School, where he was a multi-year letterman in football and wrestling and also played in the band. From a young age he was active in both music and sports. He received his undergraduate degree from Florida State University, and completed post-baccalaureate training at Georgia State University with a focus in organic chemistry. While at Georgia State, he taught both organic and inorganic chemistry laboratories. Between graduating from FSU and starting at GSU he was a professional musician, playing guitar in multiple bands, both touring and recording, and while at GSU he founded and ran a company that installed commercial furniture.
Dr. Duxbury moved to Birmingham, Alabama for medical school where he attended the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine. After medical school he returned to Atlanta and completed residency at Atlanta Medical Center, one of the oldest orthopaedic programs in the country, founded at Scottish Rite Hospital for Children in 1965. He, then, completed a pediatric orthopaedic fellowship at Emory University, working out of Egleston Children’s Hospital. Both his residency and fellowship programs served high volume, level one trauma centers. His interests include: pediatric trauma, spinal deformity/scoliosis and growth plate modulation.
Dr. Duxbury is married with two teenage step children, and is an avid snowboarder, musician, and college football fan. He also enjoys traveling.
