About Joseph D. Stone, MD

Dr. Stone returned to Georgia to join Pediatric Orthopedic Associates in September of 2013, having grown up in Marietta and attending Lassiter High School.  He graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in Microbiology and a focus in African studies. Joseph completed his doctorate of Medicine at the Medical College of Georgia.  After medical school, he traveled to the Bluegrass state completing his Orthopaedic Surgery residency at the University of Kentucky working at the Lexington Shriner’s hospital during his time there.  He most recently completed his pediatric orthopedic fellowship at the Children’s Hospital of Colorado in Denver, CO with a special focus on spine deformity, hip dysplasia/preservation and pediatric trauma.

Dr. Stone is actively involved in research into early-onset scoliosis as a member of the Children''s Spine Study Group in the Children''s Spine Foundation looking into treatment best practices including minimally-invasive magnetic growing rod technology and VEPTR (vertical expandable prosthetic titanium rib) technology.   As an overflow of his interest in hip pathology and preservation, he continues to be active in research looking at advance treatments for pediatric hip pathology with a special interest in Periacetabular Osteotomy for select hip dysplasia, Legg-Calve-Perthes disease as well as Surgical Hip Dislocation for select hip pathology including certain cases of Slipped Capital Femoral Epiphysis and Femoracetabular Impingement in the pediatric, adolescent and young adult population. 

Dr. Stone is married with three children.  He is an avid triathlete who enjoys any activity involving two wheels (the self-propelled kind).  He and his family have a particular interest in international missions having served abroad in East Africa for nearly two years.
