| Drs. E. William Schmitt and Peter
L. Meehan have been prominent figures in Atlanta
orthopaedics for more than two decades. Dr. Schmitt
spent 22 years as the foundation for the Emory
Clinic Pediatric orthopaedic program. Dr. Meehan
worked with the world renowned Dr. Wood Lovell
to establish the orthopaedics program at Scottish
Rite Hospital.
In 1996, Drs. Schmitt and Meehan decided they
could best serve the growing number of children
in Atlanta through multiple locations, and thusPediatric
Orthopaedic Associates (POA) was founded. A strong
academic and collegial tie is maintained with
Emory as POA physicians serve as the primary teachers
for pediatric orthopaedics to Emory University
residents.
Stephanie S. Martin, M.D. joined POA in 2000
after finishing two fellowships at Vanderbilt
University: pediatric orthopaedics and sports
medicine. She brings this unique combination possessed
by only a few physicians in the country to the
Atlanta community.
POA grew again in September 2002, with the addition
of Timothy S. Oswald, M.D. Dr. Oswald trained
at the premier pediatric orthopaedic fellowship
program at the University of California, San Diego
and brings special skills in minimally invasive
spine surgery to the children of Atlanta.
