| Dr. Oswald has had
an interest in children’s health and pediatric
orthopedics since early in his academic career.
He was raised in Florida and in Germany. While
living in Germany, he developed an interest in
international affairs and languages. Dr. Oswald
is fluent in German and Spanish and has studied
several other languages in pursuit of his interests.
He attended Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem,
North Carolina where he received his B.S. with
honors. He then attended the University of Florida
College of Medicine in Gainesville, Florida where
he received his M.D. with honors. It was during
medical school that he realized his passion for
children and the enjoyment of orthopedics and
as such, he decided to pursue a career in pediatric
orthopedics.
Dr. Oswald's areas of particular interest include
neuromuscular disease and minimally invasive spine
surgery. Minimally invasive spine surgery is a
rapidly growing and exciting field. It includes
thoracoscopic spine surgery for scoliosis.
Dr. Oswald is the only fellowship trained orthopaedic
surgeon in Atlanta with this expertise. His research
interests include the basic science of bone maturation
and healing, adolescent hip disorders, and scoliosis
outcome studies.
In his free time, Dr. Oswald enjoys triathlon
training, soccer, music, and spending time with
his family. He is actively involved in his church
and volunteering in the community locally and
internationally.
